Arvind Kejriwal a successful politician, socialist and anti-corruptionist, was born on 16th August 1968 in a middle-class family of Haryana. He was the eldest of the three children of Gita Devi and Gobind Ran Kejriwal. He completed his schooling from Campus School in Hisar and did his graduation from IIT in Kharagpur. After that, he joined Tata Steel in 1989 at Jamshedpur. He resigned from there in 1992 and worked with Mother Theresa’s Missionaries of Charity for some time. In the same year after qualifying the Civil Services Examination, he joined Indian Revenue Service (IRS). While working, he met Sunita, who is also an IRS officer and got married to her. Now, Arvind Kejriwal’s family consists of two kids, Harshita Kejriwal, and Pulkit Kejriwal.

Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita, is serving the government as an IRS officer. With the support of her husband Arvind, she has changed the traditional image of a woman whose life just revolved around her husband and doing housework. Arvind also took care of her wife. At times he also refused to accept the burden of being the “Man” of the house so that his wife gets all the freedom that she deserves.

Playing Challenging Roles

Arvind had a perfect life, nice wife, children, and a secured government job. If he wished, he could have lived this life happily. But he selected the way which was challenging and less travelled of cleansing the Indian political system. In 2002 when Kejriwal rejoined IRS after pursuing his higher education, he was not given posting for almost a year and yet got salary without working. Kejriwal did not like this. So after one and a half year he applied for leave without pay so that it could be balanced in his eyes, inspiring to live a dignified life and not with disgrace.

A Fighter against Corruption

Kejriwal hated corruption and wanted to eradicate it from the entire country. He founded Parivartan for helping citizens in their public works, income tax and electricity matters. When the government of Delhi passed the Right To Information (RTI) Act, Parivartan used it to help the ordinary people in getting their work done without giving bribes in government offices. He and his fellow activists also educated people not to pay bribes and helped them in getting their job done without taking any money. This Arvind Kejriwal’s RTI helped familiar people tremendously.

An Active Social Worker

Kejriwal is a social worker, as well. When he resigned from the Tata Steel in 1992, he joined Mother Theresa’s Missionaries of Charity for some time and gave his services selflessly. Also, he founded NGOs like Parivartan, Kabir and Public Cause Research Foundation for helping people in their problems.
